The Rose Cottage

This is the perfect rental if you simply want to settle into one place and enjoy the surroundings. From the front and side porches, we could watch the tide come in and out, the boats come and go, and the foot traffic on the historic cribstone bridge. The Salt Cad Cafe (excellent scones), kayak rental, and two restaurants, Sundrenched and Cook's Lobster and Ale House were all within sight and walking distance. We also took a 2-hour sail on the Casco Bay with Sea Escape Cottages which you onboard on the dock at Cook's. The beds were super comfortable and the well-stocked kitchen, gas grill, and smart TV were all appreciated.

I was traveling with 2 older adults. There were 6 steep stairs into the cottage and 3 of the bedrooms are located up another flight of stairs but the mast er bedroom is on the ground floor and very accessible.

The house is small and you can hear everything so it is best to travel with people you know well and are very close with.

MaineStay vacations staff were very friendly and responsive. We would love to return!

For our October‘s stay (6 people) This was a marvelous setting. From morning to night the views are beautiful. This was perfect for the oldest member in our party, who was able to sit back and watch the water go by. The youngest in our 3-generation group made short work of the local hiking spots. The houses location & decor is what originally attracted us. The interior was comfortable, pleasing to the eye and eclectic. It really is an unusual gem ina beautiful setting. The kitchen as well appointed and we found everything we needed for cooking from breakfast to more elaborate meals. We would suggest that this is a great location for family members who are comfortable with each other, because the rooms are very close. For new friends it might be a little tight. We loved it for our 3 generation get together. Directions and property function were clearly communicated, and host was responsive and helpful.

If you’re looking for a charming, historic cottage in a stunning location on the coast of Maine, look no further. This quaint, 1890’s cottage was clean, well appointed, and comfortable. The view is unparalleled. We enjoyed visiting the working harbors, chatting with the locals, and buying oysters from a nearby harvester. Day trips to Boothbay Harbor, Freeport, Portland, Kennebunkport. And Ogunquit completed our stay.

Our family of 4 loved our stay in this house! It is an older house that is not large, but it has wonderful views from the living room, the upstairs bedrooms and the front porch, the kitchen is small but well stocked and the beds are comfortable. We can't wait to go back.
