Disinfectant smell made us have to leave
Recent Guest, oak park, IL United States
The house smelled of a rancid nature when arriving. But we had to leave because the disinfectant used to clean was so strong that it was nauseating. The fans supplied sis not get rid of the cleaning agent smell. We had to leave because my sister got ill, but we would never have been able to stay there because of the odor issue.
Great week at The Anchorage, Bailey Island ME
George W., Williamsburg, VA United States
My wife, my sister-in-law and I spent a week at this well-equipped, very clean, and well-maintained cottage. It’s small, but was perfect for our needs. The kitchen was tiny, but had all the utensils and cookware that we required. It’s well located close to two beaches and the local grocery. The owner was very responsive to a cable question that we had. We would definitely return.
Quiet Island Cottage
Aleshia H., Hanover, PA United States
We stayed in this beautiful cottage July 4th week this past year. It’s a gorgeous location! It’s quiet and restful with a water view. The house was immaculate and fully stocked. The management company was easy to reach and responded quickly to texts. We needed a password to watch a movie on a rainy day and within 10 minutes they responded to me, reached out to the owner and had a response back to me. We would highly recommend this cottage!
I will be brief.
Darcie and Marcie fulfilled their responsibilities promptly and effectively. To our mind the fault for a wasted two weeks, which it was, lies with the Jackson family and VRBO. The Anchorage (that’s pretentious!) doesn’t have “beautiful” views of Casco Bay: its view is of adjacent roofs, houses and cars.Apparently the cottage was built in 1948 and hasn’t been updated since. Much of the wiring is metal clad. Most of the light bulbs in the house were blown, The two bedrooms upstairs came equipped with flash lights so you could find your way to bed and then down the treacherous stairs to take a pee. The kitchen is too small to prepare a meal in and overstocked with pots, pans and miscellaneous kitchenware which ended up here when the owners renovated their kitchens at home. Every flat surface was occupied by one (or 6) tchotchkes.Pots and pans were stored in the oven and when removed took up all the available counter space. My guess is that the cottage has been passed down, once or twice, to another generation which has no emotional connection to the place but sees it as an income stream The lawn gets mowed but no other attention has been paid to the grounds in years. Too bad.
